Minecraft Dungeons took a world built for mining and making and turned it into a dungeon crawler. Players faced familiar mobs in a new way, hunting for loot and fighting alone or in teams of up to four.

Working with Mojang Studios, we helped introduce that adventure through a launch trailer, teasers, story cinematics and motion design. Our work lived both inside the game and across the campaign around it.

Official launch trailer

With a little help from my friends

One hero charges into battle and quickly finds herself surrounded. Then the rest of the party arrives.

That simple setup became a fast introduction to Minecraft Dungeons. The trailer moves from custom character animation into gameplay, showing the weapons, enemies and co-op combat waiting below ground.

Teasers

Unite. Fight. Survive.

Each teaser focused on one part of the Dungeons experience.

Unite brings the party together. Fight puts their weapons to work. Survive throws the heroes into trouble and lets teamwork get them out.

05 / Opening cinematic

Opening cinematic

Before the villain, there was Archie.

Rejected by his own kind and driven away wherever he goes, Archie wanders the Overworld looking for somewhere to belong. What he finds instead is the Orb of Dominance.

The opening cinematic follows his transformation into the Arch-Illager and sets the game's story in motion.

We developed the film with Mojang through storyboards and animatics, then created the characters, environments, animation, lighting, FX and final compositing.

06 / Motion design

Motion & title design

Every hit needed weight

Minecraft Dungeons had the shapes of Minecraft, but the pace and impact of an action game.

Our motion design brought those two sides together. Block-built titles slam, split and lock into place. Transitions carry the same weight. The logo animation gives the familiar Minecraft wordmark a darker, heavier feel.

The titles, transitions and logo animation carried through the trailers, teasers and end cards, tying the campaign together.
